Lionel Richie's biggest success was in 1985, when he co-wrote "We Are the World" with Michael Jackson - the world-wide smash-hit recorded as part of USA for Africa. But interestingly, the year before (1984) Lionel Richie had a larger moral victory when he was compared and confused for Michael Jackson: In the weeks leading up to the 1984 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, Los Angeles promoters announced that the closing ceremonies would feature a surprise guest.
