I enjoy reading in bed -- it is kind of a nightly ritual for me. When my book light died a sad death, I was reduced to reading by flashlight for awhile. Lucky for me, I found the LightWedge Book Light products especially the LightWedge Harry Potter LUMOS Book Light.
The LightWedge is the best book like I have ever used! It is light weight and easy to hold. The LightWedge's acrylic lens lays flat against the page. LED light passes through the lens and illuminates the whole page instead of just a small cone area of light shining as with a bulb. The light is bright and clear but not harsh to the eyes. It illuminates fully so that I do not feel as if I have to squint or struggle to read.
The LightWedge Original is meant for and works best with hardcover books and the larger "trade" paperbacks. However, by turning it so both pages are covered, it works fine for paperback books as well. Paperback, Night Vision and other versions of the LightWedge Book Light are also available.
The LightWedge uses four AAA batteries. Because it is so energy efficient, LightWedge states that the batteries should last a long time. Two tests reveal that LightWedge is correct. Testing resulted in the batteries lasting a little over 40 hours. Not bad!
The LED light does not get hot. The LED light is supposed to last forever. I will have to wait and see if this is true. However, I am one who hates having to replace those tiny book light bulbs.
The specialty Harry Potter LUMOS version of the LightWedge is the same size as the larger-size LightWedge Original. Both measure 6.75" x 9.25". The LUMOS is a recipient of the prestigious Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Seal Award.
The LUMOS has special features including seven different Harry Potter-inspired on/off switch covers that are interchangeable. The reader has a choice of the Golden Snitch, Harry's owl Hedwig, Harry's wand, Harry's glasses, Hogwarts Crest and more. They easily snap on and off, yet stay firmly in place.
The LUMOS also includes an optional "PageRest," a clip-on tab to hold the book light on the book. I works ok, but not great and I prefer to use the book light without it.
According to LightWedge, the Harry Potter LUMOS campaign has now ended and the LUMOS is no longer in production. It is certain to become more difficult to find this version in the near future, especially never used factory sealed.
I store and protect my LightWedge in the LightWedge Soft Case. The Soft Case is made from padded rubber and lined with a micro fiber polishing cloth. The LightWedge can also be stored in the book as a bookmark. I use the LightWedge Lens Care Kit which includes a soft micro-fiber cloth and lens cleaner to clean my book light.
The only real "problem" I have found with the larger LightWedge is that it can be rather cumbersome if I am trying to read in an unconventional position. It is definitely a two-handed operation as I have to flip the book light over every time I finish a page.
LightWedge has me hooked! All of its positives far out weigh any less-than-positive aspect of the book light. LightWedge's book light is awesome! It has been featured in the media including, but not limited to, Inc. 500, Newsweek, Parenting Magazine, Time Magazine, The Today Show, and Oprah.
Whether reading in bed, reading on a plane, or reading in a car, the LightWedge Book Light Products are the perfect accessory and ideal gift for all readers!
