To further enhance quality and safety, your Lexus is equipped with a direct-sensing Tire Pressure Monitor that helps ensure drivers won’t experience hazardous driving conditions or increased tire wear because of low tire pressure.  The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) consists of tire pressure sensors integrated within the air valve of each tire (each with a built-in semi-conductor to directly measure the tire’s, air pressure) an antenna and a monitor receiver that receives the tire pressure of all five tires (including the spare) and transmits signals to illuminate the tire pressure warning light and show the tire pressure warning message on the combination meter’s multi-information display.

Function

Monitors tire pressure; alerts driver of low pressure

Benefit

Enhances safety and performance

Details

Low tire pressure reduces fuel economy, tire lifespan and driving stability—and may result in the need for replacing a flat tire in a less than desirable location.  Your Lexus features a standard direct-sensing tire pressure monitoring system that consists of tire pressure sensors integrated within the air valve of each tire and a monitor receiver that transmits signals to illuminate the tire pressure warning light located on the multi-information display. If tire pressure drops further, the tire pressure warning light blinks and a buzzer sounds at regular intervals until pressure is restored to the standard value.

Two sets of tires (such as regular and winter) may be registered in the system. Switching the multi-switch in the multi-information display allows the driver to easily select the appropriate tire set for monitoring.

The system may not operate properly if:
  • Tires not equipped with tire pressure warning valves and transmitters
  • The correct ID code is not registered in the tire pressure warning ECU
  • Electric devices or facilities using similar radio wave frequencies are nearby
  • A radio set at similar frequencies is used in the vehicle
  • A window tint that affects the radio wave signal is installed
  • There’s an excess of snow or ice on the vehicle, particularly around the wheels or wheel housings
  • Non-genuine Lexus wheels are used
  • The tire pressure warning valve and transmitter battery is depleted
  • Tire pressure is extremely high (72 psi or more)
  • Using snow tires or snow chains
