BEWARE of FAKE LEATHER items on Ebay. I have recently learned of dishonest sellers who describe their items as leather when the item contains ZERO leather. This seller uses a picture that is exactly the same as a seller in Portugal who does sell 100% genuine natural leather. The same seller with the fake items skimps on the money YOU PAID for shipping by shipping overseas in a small manila envelope which can damage boning if the item is folded in half on the bones. The item I bought was labeled polyester/elastane---there was NO LEATHER on the label. THE SELLER WILL THEN TRY TO TELL YOU IT IS 30% leather when it is still ZERO LEATHER. BEWARE so you do not overbid on a cheap inferior product as I did
I am a biochemist--do not let anyone try to persuade you that polyester/elastane is leather. There are other items out there labeled as leather, leather product etc that you also have to be aware of as these items can be legally labeled as containing leather. In the case of these products (unlike the LINGERIE SELLER WITH ZERO LEATHER IN PRODUCT), the item is made with processed leather pieces--usually fibers of leather that are mixed with another polymer to produce a manufactured leather product which contains leather but IS NOT GENUINE NATURAL OCCURING LEATHER. To avoid confusion and overpaying for inferior items learn from my experience and ask seller the following:
1. Is the item made of 100% natural- occuring tanned leather? IF not---have buyer explain what the product is made of and ask for information or photo of garment label.
2. Ask if the item is made of 100% natural tanned leather exclusive of metal hardware and lining-----some sellers are using bits of natural leather inserts in handbags and calling them leather when 90%++ of item is polyurethane or similar man-made material
3. Beware labels on designer items--knock-0ffs can also be leather and sometimes will be listed as a genuine leather ""name" product when only the leather is genuine.
