Learn to sell on eBay

eBay can be an overwhelming place to start selling, especially if you don’t have much experience! This beginner’s guide will be a quick checklist to make sure you have all your bases covered when it comes to learning to sell on eBay.

1). eBay Selling Account – While this may be common sense it is important to remember that because you have an account with eBay it doesn’t always mean you are set up to sell. Some accounts may require additional information to be submitted before you are able to start selling.

2). PayPal Account – 3 out of 4 eBay buyers prefer to send payment via PayPal. You will need to set this up and ultimately you should set this up to be able to handle credit card payments.

3). A Digital Camera – While not a “requirement” to selling on eBay it is a Must Have to sell profitably! Including images of your item in your description will dramatically increase your auction success rate. Think back to when you bid on items, how often did you bid on auctions with no picture??

4). Find something to sell! – Most sellers get their start by selling stuff they have at home. It follows the idiom of “One mans junk is another mans treasure”. Find something small at home that you wouldn’t mind throwing away. Try listing the item on the site! Your first 20+ auctions will be a HUGE learning experience!

5). Understand your bidder AND your competition – This is an often overlooked portion of selling on eBay, but really savvy sellers will have done this before they even list an item. Simply do a search for the item you want to sell. Take a look at what your competition is doing, think of what your bidders are looking for, what can you do better, what appeals to you in some listings, what distracts you? eBay is a very competitive marketplace but all your competition is only a click away so take advantage of what they are or are not doing!

6). HAVE FUN! eBay is more than just a global marketplace … it’s a community! If you are having trouble or need help you don’t need to go it alone! Let everyone else that has experience help you! Here is a link to the “Sellers Central” forum for anything you might need help with!
