The Nancy Page Quilt Club's Laurel Wreath Quilt was originally published in the 1930's in a series of newspaper articles. This applique pattern is complosed of flowers, birds and  patterns as required by the wreath design and the leaf and scallop pattern to finish the set. Each square includes color suggestions.

The finished top measures 90 inches in width and between 104 and 106 in length.  To make it for a smaller bed, user fewer appliquéd blocks in the center panel, or alter your border sizes.  The layout includes a sham or pillow panel.

20 Flowers: Evening Primrose, False Jasmine, Bloodroot, Daffodil, Canterbury Bell, Crane's Bill, Fringed Gentian, Daisy, Morning Glory, Tulip, Harebell, Arrowhead, Marsh Marigold, Trillium, Violet, Rose, Houstonia, Mallow, Lily, Star Flower.

5 Birds: Florida Jay, Hooded Warbler, Oven Bird, Cedar Waxwing, Hermit Thrush.

The design calls for 25 appliquéd wreaths.  The outer ones and the middle ones in each are cut 12 1/2" square. The second and fourth ones in each row are cut 10 1/2" x 12 1/2". The reason for the difference is this -  To get an effect of intertwining and overlapping leaves it was necessary to make the second and fourth row of blocks a little narrower. If not, each wreath would have remained apart and separate. By overlapping you get an allover effect.

This appliqué quilt is made with a creamy white background over which are two sprays of leaves and branches that intertwined and form wreaths in the center of which are the gayest of birds and the most brilliant of flowers.
