Aren't hot fix rhinestones great! They instantly add style and sparkle to any clothing or home decor item. However, once something is 'jeweled', there are special laundering recommendations that you need to know. Your item probably came with it's own set of laundering instructions... but let's just ignore those, shall we! Unless of course the tag says dry clean only!! Here are all the basic things you should know:
- Turn your item inside out.
- Use warm or cold water - not hot.
- Set washer to a normal/gentle cycle and avoid washing with other hard, heavy items if possible.
- Items can be dried (if fabric type allows) on a low heat. I recommend only partially drying, then removing to air dry completely. Only air drying is also an option.
- Do not use an iron on the jeweled areas. Hot irons will reactivate the glue and cause rhinestones to move and/or fall off.
(Swarovski hot fix crystal rhinestones)
Well that's all for the basics. And keep in mind that if your item's tag has even stricter laundering recommendations, go with those. If you're going to attempt a hot fix project, or purchase something already completed, I suggest using Swarovski hot fix crystal rhinestones. They have the best sparkle, and superior quality. And they're actually quite durable. I have accidentally left my clothes right-side-out and fully dried them in the dryer without any damage or loss. That is not recommded - however it's nice to know they have some staying power when things slip by... as things sometimes do!
