This is how it happens.
You are tired because you have been searching
for a while, and then there it is. Just what
you want.
You click the listing link and the next
screen is the EBAY login screen. Wow, thats
odd, but you just log in cause you are used
to seeing it.
Then you are directed to the listings again,
or maybe even that listing.
The next day you get up and check your My
Ebay to see how the items you are watching
are doing. Except its too late, you account
has been stolen.
This happened to me last year. The guy was
selling 2 cars. He had even added a new
email to the account which I received notice
of. Freaking me out even more.
EBAY did dive in and take care of it. I was
told to contact local authorities.
I had to answer several questions, to get my
account back, and almost didnt because I
couldnt remember one of my old emails, from 8
years ago!
So, tonight I looked at a listing and came
back to the listings page and noticed a new
one had been added under Chevy->Aveo. The
listing had a car starting bid of .01.
I laughed and wondered what the reserve was
and clicked the listing. And BANG the login
page.
I started to click the entry for my ID, then
thought what? And went back to the listing
and clicked it again. And again the login
page.
Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. I
opened another window and emailed ebay the
title of the listing.
When I went back again, the listing was gone.
In a matter of maybe 3 or 4 minutes they
hacked into EBAY changed the listing to a
fake login, and probably got someones
ID/password or maybe several accounts and
then deleted the entry.
There should be a record of it in a file on
some ebay computer somewhere.
Please, if you are ever in doubt about
logging into EBAY, open a new window and
login.
Then go back to the other window and backup
and then go forward, you should not be asked
to login again. If so, take notes and email
EBAY.
Good Luck, and Be safe.
