Lasse Skovgaard is the pipe brand for Lasse Skovgaard Jorgensen, the son of highly respected Danish pipe artisan Benni Jorgensen, also a highly respected pipe artisan.
Though Lasse is young, born in 1983, began carving pipes under the guidance of his father when he was only 16. Like his father, he started his pipe-carving career at the respected Larsen pipe company, and after a few years, decided to create his own unique line.
When he first began, neither he nor his father was impressed by the pipes he carved. But he learned quickly, and by nineteen he was carving for the well-known “Straight Grain” line at Larsen. Some fellow carvers suggested that he showcase some of his own creations, so he brought twelve pipes to the 2004 Chicago Pipe Show to see what others thought. The responses were overwhelmingly positive, and he sold all twelve of his pipes.
Both Lasse and others in the carving world were recognizing that he had immense talent, so when he returned home he began to lay the groundwork for his future career as a highly esteemed pipe artisan. He created his own website, contacted dealers, and further honed his skills, creating a personal style that was both refined and unique.
Currently Lasse shares a workshop in Denmark with his father, where they both carve their pipes. While Lasse and Benni share influences and some similar stylings, Lasse has been able to set himself apart by defining his own unique look. He works remarkably quickly and skillfully, carving 400 to 500 pipes a year, allowing him to sell his beautiful and valuable pipes for an excellent price.
