This is a brief overview of what paper collectibles are available for the Labrador Retriever, the most popular dog in the USA,(American Kennel Club Registrations for 2005 were 137,867).... the next nearest in registrations was the Golden Retriever with 48,509 followed by the Yorkie with 47,238.

The Labrador has been richly served in the images that are available and shown on such items as postcards, stamps, labels, trade cards, cigarette cards, cigar bands etc.

The Labrador Retriever on paper is a fascinating collecting field in that there are literally hundreds if not thousands of different Labrador Retriever items ranging in cost from a dollar or two upwards.

The postcard at the top is a nice example of a fairly recent USA image. There are many other older postcards available from all over the world and from the very early 1900's to the modern day.

The label/stamp below was issued in the late 1990's in Europe and is an example of what is known as a "Cinderella"....produced purely for collectors and whilst it looks like a postage stamp it is not one in that it was not designed to fulfill a postal duty.

The cigar band below was issued in Europe again mainly for the collector market,(cigar bands originally were printed to be placed around a cigar and to be used for advertising/decoration).It is fairly large in that it is 4 inches by 2 inches approx. There are many other cigar labels available.

The card below is from Europe.Another example of the diversity of available material.

This very nice original cigarette card below was issued in 1940 by John Player and Sons,(cigarette cards were given away by the cigarette companies normally inside the packets). The image is taken from a painting by Arthur Wardle who also provided images for a good few other dog sets.It has printed text on the reverse relating to the breed.

Playing cards are another rich area of collecting Labrador Retriever items, many are available from all over the world.

We do hope that you have enjoyed this brief look at some of the items available for the Labrador Retriever and if you would like to see some more please visit our eBay store.
