Lladro figurines are known for their brilliance, fragility, and collectibility. Excellence is porcelain crafting has made Lladro a household name in luxury. Here are some TIPS & INFO:
Lladro figurines are made in Valencia, Spain. They are created in a process that is a trade secret and a glaze ingredient list that has been sought after. "Gres" is also another unique feature, at Lladro, which is earthen colored and used for a "clay looking" piece. The Gres process actually creates a one of a kind piece each and every time.
BUYING TIP: When searching for a Lladro on eBay or any other collectors site always search by NUMBER, ENGLISH TITLE, SPANISH TITLE, and SPANISH LITERAL TRANSLATION. You can even search by "description," for instance, "girl with dog" or "standing clown" as the title may be unknown.
TIP: Using the Spanish Literal Translation: Many collectors will buy the Lladro piece in Spain or in a box only labeled with the Spanish Title. Therefore, they will then translate it directly into English. And, some of the English titles printed on boxes are not literal translations, therefore creating a second title. Use this site for translating directly from Spanish: google - freetranslation.com
TIP: The Lladro Number is etched into the bottom, though shelf ware can make these hard to read. Original boxes will also have the number. Always search numbers carefully until you find your piece, an 8 could be a 3 or a 1 could be a 7. Also, sometimes numbers do not correspond accurately to the title, though rare I have seen this twice with my Lladro experience. I will write another guide when I get this one figured out!
TIP: The Lladro Title is often on the box and for a piece with no box you can browse through a site like this one to find a matching piece and its corresponding title. Google - a retired collection
FUNNY TIP: I have purchased a number of genuine Lladro's under the collectible category of the classified ads in newspapers simply because all they say are "porcelain figurines" and sometimes say "with blue flower on the bottom" - ha ha. Good find!
SELLING TIP: There is a website that posts Lladro's being sold on eBay, and they search for the word "RARE" in the auction title. If you are selling Lladro and add the word RARE to your listing, you are likely to see your piece on this site! Google - worlds collectors .net Extra advertising!
FACTS:
Lladro prices will vary of course as do all collectibles. Some of the factors affecting pricing are: is the piece retired? Is this the first in a series or collection? Is this the last in a series? Is there a circumstance where many of the same piece were broken in shipping and thus there is a smaller supply? Is there a theme people generally like more than others, for instance clowns or angels? All things to consider when putting a value on your Lladro.
As a seller of Lladro I have noticed that the eBay market truely has been dictating the marked for Lladro collecting. Though you can find niches where this is not the case, an overwhelming majority of places will not try to compete with the eBay market - they will set their retail prices right alongside eBay in order to get the sale. Great for that rare piece that can get top dollar here on eBay, not so great for the retailer who has had to decrease their profit margin.
Lladro has a collector's Society that started in 1985 and ended in 2001 being changed into the Lladro Privilege organization.
The Lladro family still oversees the company - now that is a family business!
There are a few guides here on eBay regarding Lladro Authenticity - a general search for Lladro will bring them up and they have great information. There are also some guides here on eBay regarding some of the other names that correspond with Lladro such as Nao.
I will be adding guides soon regarding Lladro Flower Repair & Reviewing some of the world's Most Expensive Lladro Figurines (with photos!) Check back soon!
