LENOX
Renaissance Nativity
Renaissance Nativity
The LENOX Renaissance Nativity Set was first released in 1992. The nativity portion of the set has fifteen characters that are hand-painted porcelain bisque. LENOX sold this portion in a complete set for $975 but it is now retired.
The great artists of the Renaissance Period sought to express the joy and divinity of the holy birth with emotional realism and rich, glowing colors. Inspired by these centuries-old religious masterworks, LENOX artisans created a Nativity collection exquisitely crafted that speaks to its heirloom quality. All of the sculptures are Lenox originals, each posed in quiet reverence and delicately hand-painted using a palette of magnificent Renaissance colors.
There are seven groupings to the nativity portion of the set. It does not follow the traditional configuration of what most people consider a nativity set to be. This departure from the norm is one of the things that sets it apart from others. The pieces are simply stunning in their beauty and realism. My words can't do justice so I have pictured all of them. The photos are from the LENOX website.

There is also a large dark hardwood creche for this set, however, there is room inside for only a few pieces.ebay has a limit on the number of pictures that may appear in a Guide. I'm sorry I could not display The Animals and Camel and Driver.
After the Nativity Set had been completed, Lenox added some additional pieces featuring tangental scenes from the life of Jesus. Although not part of a traditional nativity setting, these are scaled and finished to the same Renaissance style. These include The Teacher and His Students, At the Bazaar, Woman at the Well and Merchant of Bethlehem and King on an Elephant.
