Wonderful old handwritten ledgers ! In a time when our countries history was handrecorded, the old general store ledger has become today, a precious keepsake ! Some people are tearing them up and making "art" from the pages...that breaks my heart for these old ledgers , even the ones that are "rough" hold a wonder of historical wealth in them ! prices that we can only dream of in today's time ! names of family members (if we are lucky enough to find a ledger from their hometown and lifetime!) recorded items such as pickles for a few cents ! horse collars ! nails ! apples ! socks and shoes ! the general stores back at the turn of the century and before , carried a  bit of everything ! They are like a walk back in time where you can almost imagine walking up the creaking unpainted wooden steps leading into a store with old men sitting round tables, talking, playing cards, and look, the old pickle barrel over there ! and soda crackers ! there was fabric for the women, candy for the children, tools for the men ! these old general stores recorded their sales by writing by hand, in ledger books, their sales....love history ? read a ledger ! thanks for reading my guide...I hope you enjoyed it and I hope it helps you understand the importance of our vintage record keeping books !
