I think a great way to spend an afternoon to learn about antiques & collectibles is to go to Cordelia Junction Antique Store in Suisun, CA off hwy 80 , and go thru each little store, (a collective of about 65 dealers) .  You will be amazed what you can learn and how fun it can be remembering when! Don't forget to say Hello to Karen & Cheryl who run the place.  These two women are very knowledgable. You get a great big "Hello, Welcome to Cordelia Junction" as you enter!
