PREFACE:

We have been selling a precious collection of furnishings, objects and lights from the 70s, the remanants of an upscale shop in Europe whose contents were brought here in the mid-70s and placed in storage or used slightly by the owners.  Among the extraordinary items there are several origial iconic LC1 Le Corbusier chairs, as well as the famous LC3 lounge chair, all produced under the only licensee of the design in history, CASSINA of Italy.

As this chair design is copied worldwide, in a variety of sizes, materials and proportions, it is crucial that if you are a true collector of the design that you are well informed that the ONLY production chairs which bear the approval of the late artist are those produced by Cassina.  Available brand new in Europe they retail for around 1,600 usd before taxes.  The older versions, from 1964 onward (the license was procured by Cassina in that year for a limited duration (see info below), all exhibit the following features:

      • MANUFACTURED BY CASSINA ITALY - LICENCE VALID TO 2069
      • ENGRAVED SIGNATURE IN SCRIPT: LE CORBUSIER on the lower metal bar
      • SERIAL NUMBER:  which denotes the production period
      • SUPERIOR QUALITY PONY SKIN, COWHIDE
      • STEEL OR CHROME ON STEEL TUBING FRAME
      • EXACT PROPORTIONS OF THE ORIGINAL CHAIR AS TO DESIGNER SPECIFICATIONS
      • ABOUT LC1 60S 70S ITEMS VALUE -  THIS IS CRUCIAL:  market prices for a good chair is around 2000-3,000 dollar mark, while a PAIR COMMANDS CLOSE TO 6K-9k  IN A RESPECTFUL AUCTION (see RAGO, PHILILIPS DE PURY, SOTHEBY'S AUCTION RESULTS).  Pony Skin chairs are scarcer and could exceed the 3k mark in a good auction!
