We sell most any kind of laptop case, laptop briefcase, or computer bag you can imagine.  The reason for the Guide/Review is to offer alternatives, therefore guiding you to the correct decision based on your needs.  We will naturally feature some of our own laptop cases as we discuss the different types of cases available and the pros and cons of each.  We will also discuss travel style and how this can affect your choice.  Remember that you can own more than one laptop case, depending on its purpose.

MEN:  QUESTIONS AND ALTERNATIVES:

Having traveled as a software sales executive for approx. 20 years, my observations are that men tend to travel lighter than ladies with their personal belongings, although not always, as is the case with my husband.  The typical space needs for traveling usually are: laptop computer compartment, plus wide compartment for files, binders, notepad, laptop plugs, media, phone, clothing and shoes, etc.  You may or may not need overnight combination in a laptop case. Some questions to consider are below.

• Am I a formal dressing executive or business casual or casual?  The answer can spin you in different directions, i.e. from a laptop backpack or laptop messenger bag, with or without an additional wheeled bag.  Duffel bag, or wheeled duffel bag.... many choices.
• Will I want to combine laptop carriage with overnight carriage, or do I need to carry an extra roller bag or garment bag?  All this depends on your profession.  If you are good with flying in casual slacks/shirt and packing your business clothes, while wearing your only pair of shoes, all the better.  In this scenario, there are many choices in our store, i.e. you can get a laptop case with shoulder strap that has a suiter built right in for clothing, plus laptop/organizer storage all in one case!  (no wheels, see our David King briefcase section).
• What if I don't want to combine clothing with my laptop storage, what are my alternatives?  We always suggest wheels when possible.  If you are resigned to two bags,  alternatives include a garment bag (shoulder hurts already, although we do offer some lightweight ones in Royce Leather), wheeled overnight case with organizer and laptop combination. What I sell more of and see in the airports are large, smart wheeled bags, that go to the max airline limit and house laptop and clothing, while the arm/shoulder bag is lightweight and sometimes stylish. It helps to have loops or straps that afford your shoulder bag a ride on top of your wheeler.
• Do I need to carry heavy notebooks?  Do I need a catalog case? 
• Will I carry THIS particular laptop always, or just for a short time?
• What are my airline regulation requirements, will my laptop case fit the plane?  check our store under laptop case section.
  
• How can I be sure I will be happy with my purchase?  First, choose a seller with a good reputation.  Two, consider your financial outlay, you usually do get what you pay for but cannot ignore your budget.  Three, choose quality over trend.  Four, analyze your requirements correctly.  Five, consider the treatment you will afford your bag, again quality versus budget.  Six, choose a manufacturer with good warranty and repair policy.

For the gentleman that can afford it all, its ideal to have a wheeled laptop overnight bag, a lightweight laptop case, leather notepad/portfolio, a lightweight garment bag, and a duffel or travel tote.  This way you have options, depending on what your travel needs.

CONSIDERATION FOR YOUR LAPTOP:

First measure laptop dimensions, all three.  When Sellers advertise "17 laptop case" we are measuring the screens diagonally, and not all "17 laptop cases" fit all 17" screens.  Check the "inside" dimensions of the bag compared to your laptop.  If seller does not publish this, email them before you buy the bag.

TRAVEL TIPS AND CARE OF LAPTOP CASE:

I have another tip for men and ladies that travel to visit existing or new customers.  I tipped my husband off to this, and he has been using it every since!  Rather than take an entire customer file, print out discussion points and backup material only.  Have only one "travel file" per customer with only pertinent material for discussions versus bringing their entire historical file.  This cuts down on weight of your travel.  Also instead of carrying entire binders and manuals, take out of your ring binder only the sections you really need, and use your laptop to reference unexpected research.  Always carry an Ethernet wire or wireless hookup.

If possible, don't check your nice leather laptop case.  Keep it polished with a non-wax leather lotion recommended by your manufacturer.  Spot check all metal screws occasionally, if they are loose, tighten them, so you don't lose the screw.  If you do, write your manufacturer they usually keep these on hand and will mail them to you.  Be careful of substances (gels, colognes, lotions and soaps) on your hands when handling your nice leather sometimes these substances cause undesirable stains.  You can scotch guard leather, see local leather shop.  If you get the bag wet, take everything out, and blot the spots with dry cloth and absorb water, fill bag with dry towels to keep shape and let air dry.  Once dry if spots remain, see your manufacturer instructions to remove rain spots.  Many bags are pre-treated and labeled as weather resistant, with very light film of Polyu.  Remember that used leather looks the best, the patina acquired from use is a desirable thing!
