If you're considering becoming a seller and or collector of antiques and vintage collectibles, either as a hobby or as a full time business, here are some suggestions before you buy or sell:
It is important to learn everything you can and become familiar and knowledgable with the item(s) you're interested in,
whether you're buying to sell or collect.
To get your best deals and or profit on your item(s) it is wise to keep up with the ever so changing trends and market prices.
To do this you need to research, read books from your local library or buy books to read, visit antique shops and flea markets often and research online. Ask questions from other dealers and collectors. Most will be more than happy to talk about their finds and what they sold it for.
If you happen to find (after the fact) that your purchase was a reproduction, defected in someway or maybe you paid too much for it? Learn from your mistakes, cut your losses and try not to make the same mistake again. But, please be honest and disclose the information to the next person if you should decide to resell the item.
Last but not least "Knowledge is Power" within the world of Antiques and Vintage Collectibles. Remember, not everyone can know everything...(even the "best" in the business). As you increase your knowledge you'll find that you can and will get some great deals!
Good luck with your new adventure and happy treasure hunting!
