Here is a list of the most popular fabrics and their strongest points.
When shopping online make sure you are getting the fabric that you want.

IRIDESCENT TAFFETA: Rich colors, two-tone shimmer, not shiny, presses beautifully, lightweight, traditional wedding feel .
POLYESTER TAFFETA: Gives the look of silk without the wrinkles.
RENAISSANCE SATIN: Traditional bridal fabric, heavy, holds shape well, gorgeous colors.
SILKY SATIN: Nightgown-like fabric, very rich and luxurious feeling, drapes well.
POLYESTER SATIN: Very light, irons up nicely and very cost effective.
CHIFFON: Light, flowy, layers well, easy iron, great for destination weddings .
ORGANZA: Usually an overlay so it gives a different look to the gown, creates a shimmer effect over other fabrics. Gives luster to the gown but is stiffer than a chiffon. Lightweight and great for summer wedding.
DUPIONI SILK: Not as much sheen as a regular silk but has the same grain, lightweight, nice texture but will wrinkle some.
ITALIAN SILK: Buttery feel, a little heavier than Dupont silk, luxurious, beautiful texture.
LACE (chantilly): Can be light and airy but gets heavier with beading and embellishments.
SILK CHARMEUSE: Feels like butter, gorgeous.
