The most important thing to do before buying a double stroller is to sit down and create a list of things that are important to you--and your children--in a stroller. For instance, I'm a big fan of strollers that are easy to turn. My kids like strollers with cup holders for their drinks and snacks. Next take your list and start researching the various makes and models available to identify the ones that meet your criteria. If you're like me, you probably won't find one that meets all of your needs (it was hard for me to find a double jogger stroller with a front swivel wheel and cup holders for the kids) but doing this research will help you manage your expectations of what you will get when you do finally make your purchase.

If price isn't a barrier, and you want to be able to be able to go anywhere, I suggest a side-by-side double jogger with a swivel front wheel. You can't beat these strollers for versatility and maneuverability. They can go anywhere and do anything. They typically have bicycle tires and extra suspension for a smooth ride over any terrain. Storage space can be dicey depending on the model. Strollers of this ilk range in price from around $200-$700 depending on the make and model. Occasionally, you can find good used double joggers on ebay. If you see one, SNAP IT UP! These babies are hard to find. I found a Zooper double stroller recently that was, to my great disappointment, "Pick-up only". As I live in Philly and the seller lived in Chicago picking up this beauty was not an option for me (sigh.)  

If you are buying a double stroller on a budget, try a tandem double stroller. There are many makes and models to choose from and most are under $200. I have the Graco Duo Glider LXI and paid about $180 for it online. While it is a little heavy, I love this stroller. It's got great storage underneath, good cup holders near the handle, good cup holders/snack cups for the kids, shade canopies, terrific safety features, etc. For its size, it's fairly easy to push around the mall and in between aisles at stores. One of the few drawbacks is that when the back seat is reclined, you cannot access the bottom storage basket. Since the infant carrier goes in the back seat (and requires the seat to be reclined) this made Christmas shopping with my two little ones a bit of a challenge this past year. But, now that we're past that brief stage, I once again love my Duo Glider. Remember, if you're on a tight budget, it's fairly easy to find these tandem double strollers used. I have seen many of these types of strollers at garage sales, consignment stores and on online auctions for very little money.

The internet is definitely your friend when shopping for double strollers. Again, know what you want and do your research. With a little patience and perseverance you will find the stroller of you (and your childrens) dreams.
