Taz was the creation of Warner Bros. Looney Tunes cartoons. His main characteristic is an unstoppable appetite. Although he is a wildly popular character in the present day, Tasmanian Devil only appeared in five cartoons over a span of ten years before Warner Bros. closed its animation studio in 1964. Taz first appeared in the cartoon short, "Devil May Hare," with Bugs Bunny and was voiced by Mel Blanc. The short was released on June 19, 1954. However, when Looney Tunes began airing on television in the 1980s, Taz became immensely popular despite his limited exposure. The character was then given his own show to satisfy viewers: Taz-Mania, a show that ran from 1991-1994 on Fox. He was a star in the film Space Jam along with the rest of the Warner Bros. gang. He was also seen in Looney Tunes: Back in Action in 2003.
Trivia : The Tasmanian devil is actually a marsupial that is native to Australia. Another well-known marsupial is a kangaroo.
Taz appeared in one issue of a comic book entitled: Tasmanian Devil & His Tasty Friends in 1962.
