Strawberry Shortcake first originated from an American Greetings card that was produced in 1979.  Later, Strawberry Shortcake was released as a doll by the toy company, Kenner, and became very popular.  She was first released in 1980 and then re-released in 1991 and then again in 2002.   The doll usually is sold with a pet and is perfumed to smell like strawberries, (either Custard the cat in the 1980's or Pupcake the dog in the 2000's.  Since her origination, an entire line of dolls based on the names of desserts have been sold, including:  Huckleberry Pie (with Pupcake the dog), Apple Dumplin' (with Teatime turtle), and Lime Chiffon (with Parfait Parrot).  She lives in Strawberryland and also stars in several video games and movies.
