Princess Jasmine was the daughter of the sultan of Agrabah, an imaginary country. Her father was trying to arrange for her to marry when she was very young, only fifteen or sixteen years old. But instead, while her father was parading around suitable husbands, she met a thief named Aladdin whom she fell in love with. All the while, the evil Jafar, the grand vizier, was scheming to take over the kingdom for his own.
Jasmine starred in Disney's Aladdin that was released in 1992. Her physical appearance was influenced by Jennifer Connelly as well as by the sister of Mark Henn, the animator for Princess Jasmine. The story of Aladdin was originally derived from The Book of One Thousand and One Nights, a book of Arabian "fairy tales." Jasmine also appears in two sequels to Aladdin in The Return of Jafar (1994), and Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996). She also starred in the television series aired on Disney that was simply titled Aladdin.
