The 17th animated feature by Disney, "One-Hundred and One Dalmatians " was released in theaters on January 25, 1961. The film is based on the novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians by Dodie Smith. The film's main characters are talking Dalmatians, (Pongo and Perdita) who, after their owners, Roger and Anita, get married, have a litter of 15 Dalmatian puppies. Cruella De Vil, an old school friend of Anita's offers her money for the puppies so that she can make a coat out of their furs. Roger and Anita refuse and so Cruella sends Horace and Jasper, her two evil henchmen, to steal the puppies.
When they find that the puppies are missing, Pongo and Perdita go on an adventure to rescue their fifteen puppies, along with the eighty-four puppies that Cruella has stolen elsewhere. There have also been two live-action features for the 101 Dalmatians, "101 Dalmatians," which was released in 1996, and "102 Dalmatians," which was released in theaters in 2000.
