Securing Your Computer:  Keeping Windows & Your Computer Safe

There are many ways to protect your computer using Windows applications.  This method will help to make your system more secure.

WINXP

• Right click on MY COMPUTER
• Choose PROPERTIES from the CONTENT menu
• Select AUTOMATIC UPDATES tab
• Choose AUTOMATIC option
• Disable REMOTE DESKTOP and REMOTE ASSISTANCE (only if you do not have a specific need for one).
• Also select REMOTE TAB
• Uncheck the boxes for both options
• Turn on WINDOWS FIREWALL
• Access the WINDOWS CONTROL PANEL
• Open SECURITY CENTER
• Click the FIREWALL option
• Set FIREWALL option to "On" (Select "Off" if you use another FIREWALL program that requires you to disable Windows Firewall)
