Prayer Journaling.

There are many ways to organize and write a prayer journal.

This guide lists several possibilities to consider when deciding how to keep your prayer journal.

Be inspired and make it your own.

  • Set a minimum goal for your journaling; perhaps as little as one sentence per week.
  • Keep a diary of prayers.
  • Make your journal a daily log of prayer requests and prayers that have been answered.
  • Take notes on Bible Scriptures you are reading.
  • Take notes on devotional books you are reading.
  • Take notes on sermons you have heard.
  • Journal your prayers exactly as you would say them aloud, rather than simply making lists of the subjects of your prayers.
  • Write about the subjects of your prayers, rather than using the exact words as you would say them aloud.
  • Rather than keeping a daily log, record entries using an index in the front that lists the page number and subject of each entry.
  • Draw four columns on each page: Column 1; Date of prayer request. Column 2; Prayer request. Column 3; How prayer was answered. Column 4; Date of answered prayer.
  • Split your journal into sections. Each section can be for a different subject of your prayers. For example: Self, Family, Friends, Church, School, Work, Community, Government, World.
  • Have a separate page for each person or situation that you pray for.
  • Include photos in your journal. Perhaps you could paste photos of the people you are praying for in your journal along with your prayer requests for each of those people.
  • Make your journal beautiful. Adorn it like you would a scrapbook.
  • Pray and journal by themes. This could be by "Theme of the day" or "Theme of the month" for example.
  • Perhaps you don't want to organize your journal. Simply write down your prayers as you pray them.
  • Start each page by writing down the name or names for whom you are praying. As you earnestly pray for them write down your prayers. Later go back and finish those pages by recording prayer reports about answers to those prayers.
  • When you promise to pray for people or situations, use your prayer journal as a record to remind you to follow through on your promises.
  • Some people don't read their journals again until completely finished. This allows them to reflect on their prayers, seeing how they worked.
  • Record what God has said to you (messages He has given you) as well as what you have said to God.
  • Write about how God is working in your life or how you have seen God working in the lives of others.
  • Write true stories about how God has answered prayer requests made by yourself or others.
  • Choose a journal with cover art that inspires you.
  • Reflect on the subjects suggested by scriptures and quotes that are printed on each page in many commercially available prayer journals.
  • Keep your journal as a record of your relationship with Jesus; your love for Him and His love for you.
