Let your laptop / netbook keep cool, stay cool, and last longer
Technology can be convenient, but at the same time, it may also bring adverse effect. It is true that a laptop is one of the greatest invention, with that little handy laptop, we can use almost anywhere we want ... for example, on our legs, on the bed, practically anywhere we could think of... however, many users would never choose to rest a laptop directly on their legs without a pillow, a magazine or some other improvised shield in place. However, will that pillow helps us in any ways?
Basically I would say no... it may be able to protect your legs from the heat, but using a pillow or any form of inappropriate shielding materials will only shorten the life of a laptop or the components inside it. I have seen
our over heat laptops turns off without warning endless times, it just shuts off at a temperature that it can't bear anymore.
As a long time, loyalty laptop user, I use my laptop days and nights without any breaks. My laptop is my companion, I noticed that during summer or those warm days, it gets very hot, so hot that I worry how long it can last...without dying... it literally burn my hands at the bottom.
Those days, I will make sure that it will always have a cooling board standby so that it can be working without any problem. Honestly, since my laptop is a sturdy IBM T43, it never turn off on me suddenly, like our other laptops. It's long lasting is unspeakable. So why do I need a cooling board then? Well, since my laptop is a piece of large investment, I want to keep it in the best condition, ever. Due to the fact that I need to keep the laptop on over nights, I noticed it stays much cooler in the next morning, if with the support of a cooling board - making it easy to be touched, it will not burn my hands... However, if I can't find the cooling board, or our dog has destroyed the power cable so I have to buy another one before I can use it, even the table where the laptop sits will be heated up so much more, it is hot on the touch.
So why do we need to keep our laptop at a much cooler temperature? This is because the motherboard, video cards and other fundamental, virtual components works best and last longer at room temperature.
It is quite true that they are designed to withstand a certain temperature fluctuation, in addition, well designed laptops are designed to works at their best even at high temperature. However, high temperatures will
certainly shorten the lives of our laptop, making us spending unnecessary funds to get components replaced at an earlier times.
So if we can keep our valuable investment at their best condition, I see no reason why we can't stand up and take the move, if buying a cooling board is not a high investment as compared to buying a laptop.
A recent review offered by CNET has pointed out that basically all cooling boards offer similar cooling effect, as a result, criterial in buying a cooling board is a matter of price, color and weight. If we can get a small cooling board, easy to be carried around, pretty and at a reasonable price, it will certainly helps our laptops to stay healthy, much much longer...
