Jurassic Park Series 1 toys: 1993

The purpose of this guide is to help you to identify OOP (out of package) Jurassic Park action figures.  Because guide size and number of pictures allowed are limited I have divided up the toys into the different series that were released.  Jurassic Park toys are easy to recognize because each one contains a JP logo stamped on its body somewhere.  You can find out more about these logos in my Guide to Identifying and Selling Dinosaur Toys on eBay.

This guide provides the correct spellings of the names of the human and dinosaur action figures and the vehicles and playsets.  I have included as many pictures as I could; keep in mind that I do not own all of the Jurassic Park toys (I'm not made of money!).

Michael Crichton's book, Jurassic Park, was published in 1990 and the film version, directed by Steven Spielberg, was released in 1993.  Kenner's release of the first series of Jurassic Park toys coincided with the release of the film.  The toys were so successful that Kenner released a second series of Jurassic Park toys in 1994.  This guide covers only the first series of Jurassic Park toys.

Human Action Figures

Each human figure came with a weapon, a baby dinosaur figure, and a collector's card.  All the human figures have a blue name badge with the JP logo.  There were 5 series 1 human action figures.  Note that the baby dinosaur figures that came with the human action figures have a small JP logo on them, but no ID number like the large dinosaur toys.
  • Alan Grant: came with a backpack/net launcher, net, hand held bomb, and a little blue/gray Pteranodon toy.
  • Ellie Sattler: Pink shirt, khaki shorts.  Came with a firing grappling hook gun, a backpack, and a green baby Triceratops.
  • Robert Muldoon: Khaki shirt and shorts, yellow vest, brown gun belt and boots.  Came with a firing bazooka, two red missiles, a backpack to hold the missiles, and a brown baby Tyrannosaurus.
  • Tim Murphy: Khaki shorts, white shirt and sneakers.  Came with a red snare, gray night vision goggles, a gray baby Brachiosaurus, and a cage to hold the Brachiosaurus.
  • Dennis Nedry: Black pants and gloves, green shirt, sunglasses.  came with a green gas mask, a gray gun attached to a gray/yellow backpack that will hold and shoot water, and a green baby Dilophosaurus.  Both of his arms come off (dino damage).

Vehicles/Playsets

The original Jurassic Park toyline included 3 vehicles and 1 large playset.

  • Bush Devil Tracker: modeled after a Jeep Wrangler.  Its khaki-color with a red stripe across the hood and windshield.  The windshield breaks off (dino damage).
  • Capture Copter: Gray helicopter with a big toothy mouth decal on the front.
  • Jungle Explorer: modeled after a Ford Explorer.  Green and yellow with red stripes.  The hood comes off (dino damage).

  • Electronic Command Compound: Looks like the visitor center in the movie.  Its a gray building (with dino damage panels) with a tan roof and it came with lots of accessories: 6 pieces of fence, Jurassic Park gate, talking computer with red light, net launcher and net, firing missile, hatchery and eggs.

Dinosaurs

Jurassic Park dinosaur toys are relatively easy to identify because many have a unique ID number next to the JP logo that is stamped on their bodies (usually on the leg).  Here is a list of the dinosaurs arranged by the number next to the JP logo.
  • JP01: Dimetrodon: green with yellow spots on its sail.  Push on its rear left leg to make its jaws snap.
  • JP02: Dilophosaurus: shades of green.  It fills and squirts water when you squeeze its belly.

JP02: Dilophosaurus
  • JP03: Velociraptor: brown/black.  When you squeeze its lege it lowers its head and snaps its jaws.

JP03: Velociraptor
  • JP04: Coelophysis (2 different figures): one is gray one is green, they both have a little purple on their noses.  Their bodies have a wire running through them so you can pose their necks and tails.

JP04: Coelophysis
  • JP05: Pteranodon: blue/light gray belly/dark gray back.  Push the button on its back to make its wings flap.

JP05: Pteranodon
  • JP06: Young Tyrannosaurus Rex: tan with wide brown stripes.  Contains a dino damage wound and skin piece to cover it.  A note about dino damage: having the piece of skin that covers the dino damage wound makes a JP toy more valuable - the skin piece is easily lost.  Also note that when the dinosaurs were sold, the skin piece was not in place as in the picture below.  If you see a JP dinosaur in its box and the skin piece is covering the wound that means the toy has been removed from the box at some point - so it is not MISB (mint in sealed box)!

JP06: Young Tyrannosaurus Rex MIB: dino-damage is on its side between leg and arm, but is covered
  • JP07: Stegosaurus: light green with dark green spots and plates.  Has dino damage.
  • JP08: Triceratops: green with subtle vertical stripes.  Squeeze its belly and it raises its head.  Has dino damage.

JP08: Triceratops
  • JP09: Electronic Tyrannosaurus Rex: red-brown with brown spots.  Squeeze its belly and its mouth opens and it roars.  Makes electronic stomping noise when you stomp its feet.  No dino damage.  It is always a good idea to mention if the sounds are working when you are selling one.

JP09: Electronic Tyrannosaurus Rex
  • JP10: Electronic Velociraptor: yellow with red back and stripes.  Pull back on its leg and its arms will open and it will roar.
  • JP11: Electronic Dilophosaurus.  Gray with green back and stripes.  Pull its arm and its mouth opens and it roars.  Has removable frill.

JP11: Electronic Dino Screams Dilophosaurus
