Jude Deveraux was born Jude Gilliam September 20, 1947 in Fairdale, Kentucky.  She is an American Romance novelist. She writes historical romances, and modern day romances, and often writes of the occult or time travel, or reincarnation.

Jude married Claude White, and her early books where written with that name. She began using the name Jude Deveraux in 1976, and her first book was published in 1977.

She had been a fifth grade school teacher, until she was a published author. Then she resigned and began writing full time.

Ms Deveraux has lived in many countries and in many states in the US, she is currently living in North Carolina, and she also has a home in Italy.
Many of her books follow the Montgomery family, and their cousins the Tagerts.
