Josh McRoberts, currently a forward for the Blue Devils at Duke University in North Carolina, was considered a prospect for the 2006 NBA draft, but announced in April that he would return to Duke for his sophomore year.
McRoberts was born on February 28, 1987 in Indianapolis, Indiana. His mother is a teacher, his father is a salesman, and he has two younger sisters and a younger brother. He attended Carmel High School, where he mentored local school children and was a member of the Student Athletic Board. In 2005, he was named the High School Senior Athlete of the Year. In addition, he won the 2005 McDonald's All-America Player of the Year, the 2005 McDonald's All-America Game MVP, and played on the 2005 Parade All-American Basketball team.
In the course of his high school career, McRoberts racked up 1,264 points, 759 rebounds, 255 assists, and 259 blocks. He was considered the number one high school power forward player the year he graduated. In college, McRoberts played on the 2006 Second-team All-ACC tournament squad, the 2006 Third team Freshman All-America, and the 2006 ACC All-Freshman Team. In the 2005-2006 season at Duke, McRoberts averaged 8.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.3 blocked shots, and 1.5 assists per game. In the last two months of the season, he averaged 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game and shot 60.5 percent from the field.
With McRoberts's help, Duke achieved a record of 32-4 during the 2005-2006 season and won the ACC tournament championship against the Boston College Eagles. McRoberts wears Duke jersey number two.
