I didn't even know it. An internationally recognized ceramicist has a studio right here in Michigan. John Parker Glick still creates, teaches and sells his incredible art pottery at his Plum Tree Pottery studio / gallery in Farmington Hills.
I discovered Glick's work at a local estate sale where I was lucky enough to pick up a lovely frog-type flower vase. The first thing I noticed was the lovely earth tone glazes used on that piece. As I began reading about the artist, I discovered his work has been shown in The Smithsonian American Art Museum.
I ran across a few more pieces later that year. I was able to recognize the wonderful balance yet organic look of Glick's work, which is said to have a Japanese influence. And the glazes have such beauty, browns as deep and varied as a handful of earth, blues like a cloud-streaked evening sky.
Glick's work is normally stamped with the words PLUM TREE POTTERY along with another impressed mark. He often hand signs each piece. He has had other artists working in his studio and has taught and mentored several other amazing artists.
Highly collectible, expertly crafted. Lovers of studio pottery will appreciate the beauty of this artist's work.
