Not many people could tell you exactly who John Barlow Jarvis is, but most have heard his work. He is an excellent musician and songwriter. He plays an incrediable piano, so well that I'm not even sure it could be called playing. It seems more that the piano comes to life under his hands and he's able to make it sound breathtaking. In the 1970's he played in Rod Stewart's band and in the 1980's he relocated to Nashville where he is in high demand as a recording session musican, as well as a songwriter. Together with Niami Judd and Paul Overstreet he helped write Love Can Build a Bridge. He has written songs for and worked with many country musicians, including Vince Gill, Reba McIntyre, and Brooks and Dunn, while also remaining deeply involved with jazz and classical compositions. His latest album is View From a Southern Porch, which has a wonderful array of his personal tastes on it, but my favorite is Tennessee Lament. Steve Wariner recently released a song they wrote together called The Man She Thinks I Am. And it's great! If you're ever in Nashville on Monday night, stop by The Bluebird Cafe. You might be lucky enough to catch him playing with a local group called The Bluebloods. Either way you should check out his website to learn more about him and how to purchase his music.
