John Agar, now deceased, was and remains a favorite actor in the older sci-fi films.  Today, he is considered by many, as one of the top draws in science fiction movies.  Few Hollywood actors have starred in as many films as has John Agar.

The list of film credits in  John Agar's 50 year career is enormous and would fill many pages.  This is to say nothing of his many appearances in top rated television shows and other classic films such as "Sands of Iwo Jima", "Fort Apache" and "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" all of which starred the late John Wayne.

The science fiction films "Revenge of the Creature", "The Mole People" and "Tarantula" and many more are still shown on various sci-fi movie channels.  Late night and early morning television viewers will find many of these classic films still playing. John Agar graced the movie screen for a long time.

Today's movie stars are lucky if they are around to make some apearance a few years after they make the big screen but what about 50 years?  How many Hollywood actors and actresses can make this mark?  Not many!

John Agar was a gentleman.  Anyone who really knew him well liked him.  He was easy to get along with and showed the utmost respect for everyone he came into contact with regardless of their position in life. John liked everyone!

In spite of John's weaknesses, and we all we have them, he is and  remains an institution in his own right. There is not a week goes by where one of his sci-fi films is not being shown somewhere in tv land. In addition, his many appearances in John Wayne films can be seen as well!  His films have created a cult following  amongst certain groups of viewers.

I had the distinct pleasure in knowing JohnAgar as a friend and colleague. He was a kind and considerate man and was a gentleman in all respects.  He was not a man who had lost touch with the real world as many big movie stars have. In my years of knowing John, I never once heard him say a negative thing about anyone. He had only good things to say.  John was truly a caring and down to earth guy!

We met in Los Angeles during the mid-80's.  At that time, I was involved in recording and performing in the Los Angeles area.  John became a good friend and we shared many good times together as friends and as colleagues in the music business.  John joined my band "Freedom Train" as a vocalist and we performed at many military bases, nightclubs and various other venues in southern California.

We played at the famed Palomino Club in North Hollywood and other famous venues in Los Angeles. We also played at many military bases in southern California. The audiences loved John Agar!  Few people realize that John was a good singer!

During the mid-80's, John recorded an album consisting of several songs that I had written.  The song "America: Where Are We Going?" was recorded in Nashville along with "Hollywood Heaven" which was a song based upon the old Tex Ritter song "Hillbilly Heaven".  The America song was a tribute to the late John Wayne who was a close friend to Agar.  Both of these songs are on the album and have played very well over the years.

John Agar, when we stop to think about it, deserves his place on the "Hollywood Walk of Fame"!  What do you think?  I would like to encourage all interested parties to wage an effort in having John Agar's star placed on that famous walk.  Afterall, few Hollywood stars have had the staying power that John Agar has had!  Johnny Grant....are you reading this review?  Lend a hand if you will!

I am sorry to learn of the death of Johnny Grant. Johnny will be missed as the Mayor of Hollywood.
