Joakim Noah, born on February 25, 1985, is currently a sophomore at the University of Florida, where he plays forward/center for the Gators. At six-foot-eleven-inches and 227 pounds, Noah is considered to be exceptionally versatile and agile for his size. He is fluid on his feet and tends to play the game with a tremendous amount of passion. He has good reactive skills and excellent guarding capabilities.
Noah was born in New York City and played high school basketball for Lawrenceville Prep in New Jersey. In his senior year of high school he led Lawrenceville to the State Championship, earning the New Jersey Prep a state title and averaging 24 points and twelve rebounds per game for the season.
After playing relatively infrequently during his freshman year at Florida in the 2004-2005 season, Noah came back strong in his sophomore year. In the 2005-2006 season he led the team in points, averaging 14.2 per game. While he was projected to be a top prospect in the 2006 NBA draft, Noah has announced his plans to remain at Florida for his junior season. In 2006, Noah was named the MVP of the NCAA Tournament Minneapolis Regional and earned the Most Outstanding Player title of the Final Four.
Joakim Noah is the son of Yannick Noah, a celebrated French tennis player who won the 1983 French Open and who is now a successful musician in France. His mother, Cécilia Rodhe, was crowned Miss Sweden in 1978 and is currently a sculptor in New York. Noah's Gator jersey number is thirteen.
