At the urging of a fellow pet lover I've begun to make Jewelry for dogs.   At first I was a bit skeptical, but now that I've seen it worn I'm hooked!  There are a few lessons I've learned along the way that I'd like to share with fellow pet owners.

Not all pets are going to be able to wear jewelry.  It is best left for the shorter hair breeds, or the dog should be groomed shorter around the neck area.  Otherwise the necklace is not seen, and the hair can be tangled  into the necklace.

Also, if your dog itches frequently around the neck area, a necklace may not be appropriate for your pet.  Their nails may get injured if caught accidentally in the necklace, or if the necklace is not strong may break easily.

You should never leave your dog unattended with jewelry on, it should be saved for those special occasions when going out on the town. So now that you've decided that Jewelry is for your pet, how do you find Jewelry for your Princess?

I've found that it is best to stay away from beads smaller then 8mm as they tend to get lost and are not seen as well as the larger beads. Make sure to check the quality of the beads, findings, and clasps.  You don't want to purchase something that will tarnish or break easily. Necklaces should be approximately 1" larger then the size of their neck. You want to make sure it hangs down below the collar easily, but not so big that it can fall off.

If your pet wears hair accessories, there are some great stretchy bracelets you can use on top of a clear rubber band.  This type of accessory should stay within the 4mm to 6mm bead size, otherwise the weight of the bead will cause it to fall off their hair.

I've really enjoyed adding this line to my jewelry and am excited to see more and more pets dressing up to the nines and flaunting their jewels!
