Jet Tone paved the way for modern trumpet players with new ideas in mouthpiece design. Jet Tone trumpet mouthpieces provide support in the upper register and allow greater endurance. They produce a brighter sound than standard "C" cup designs and are still widely sought after by players at all levels. They come in two basic categories...the Vintage (signature) line, and the Standard line.
For someone trying a Jet Tone, it is frequently best to start with a 7M or 10M. The medium cup is still quite shallow and provides great support in the upper range. The 7 models are close to the diameter of a Bach 7C, while the 10 models are quite close to a Bach 10.5 width. If a player is used to a wider diameter, I recommend the 1M. Many players who are not familiar with Jet Tone mouthpieces try to jump to a Maynard or Chase model at first. This sometimes causes difficulty. The Vintage line has been produced for pro players who have many special preferences. These mouthpieces do not always suit the needs of "Joe Trumpet Player." (Like myself)
I love Jet Tone mouthpieces, but caution people that some trial and error may be necessary, as with any mouthpiece. The rims are extremely comfortable and I genuinely believe Jet Tone offers a great product at a very reasonable price. For those looking for a superior upper register mouthpiece, Jet Tone is still a leader. I welcome questions and also recommend the Jet Tone website as a reference.
