Jem - Complete Guide to Jem Dolls & Characters

Jem and the Holograms were so much more than chicks who rocked.  They starred in their own cartoon series in the '80s, and when you bought the dolls, you also received a cassette featuring original tracks from the band.  Introduced in 1985, Jem and the other dolls were instantly popular, and over the years, Hasbro has introduced several different versions of this popular doll, as well as friends and rival dolls.

The first Jem dolls introduced were the "Jem/Jerrica" dolls and the "Rock n' Curl Jem." If you're collecting Jem dolls, you can tell the doll is in its original packing by looking for the signature Jemstar Points.  These points were meant to be cut out, and mailed in for special offers from Hasbro.

The original Jem/Jerrica doll came with pink and blond hair, battery operated earrings that blinked, and a microphone stand.  In 1985, when they were first introduced, Jem's backup band, the Holograms, came with cassettes featuring a variety of different recordings.  The Hologram dolls included Kimber, Aja, Shana, and Rio.  The rival band, the Misfits, featured Pizzazz, Roxy, and Stormer dolls.

The second generation of Jem dolls, introduced in 1986, featured more sparkle, and the "Glitter 'n Gold" theme song.  Dolls from that year included Glitter n' Gold Jem, Glitter n' Gold Rio, Flash and Sizzle Jem, Raya, Synergy, Danse, and Video.  The Misfits featured Pizzazz, Roxy, Stormer, and new members Clash and Jetta.   1987 saw the introduction of the Starlight Girls, incuding Ashley, Krissie, and Banee.  Special edition Jem dolls included "Rockin' Romance Jem," "American Beauty Jem" and a male doll with long purple hair.  Over the years, several different DVDs were released featuring Jem and the Hollograms as well.
