The Jefferson Glass Company made many different colored pressed glass novelties in the later part of the Victorian era. Many of their patterns were very popular and made from 1901 through 1906. In particular were their Opalescent color assortments.
One of the biggest assets a glass company could have at that time were their carved moulds used in pressing the glass patterns. They quickly found out, that stretching and manipulating the hot glass items after they came out of the moulds, they could produce what appeared to be completely different items, when in fact they were using the same moulds. They would press different colored glass in the moulds, and then change the shapes and apply different color glass frit to outside edges and they would sell these items in what they advertised as "Assortments". Below are some photos of the different known glass frits applied to their novelty items.
"Beaded Drapes" footed bowls with Cranberry, rare Green, and very rare Cobalt Blue frits.
"Block" Celery vases with, Cranberry, rare Green, and very rare Cobalt Blue frits.
As mentioned above, by changing the shapes, the company could maximise the output of their products. Below are some examples.
"Pearls and Scales" footed Rose Bowl and footed Compote from the same mould.
"Fancy Fantails" footed Rose Bowl and footed Candy Dish from the same mould.
"Beaded Drapes" footed Rose Bowl and footed Compote from the same mould.
"Block" Celery Vase and Compote from the same mould.
