Jeep Wrangler - Customize your Jeep Wrangler
The Jeep CJ, also called the Civilian Jeep, was first introduced in 1944. The design was inspired by military jeeps used in World War II. Several different manufacturers have produced the Civilian Jeep over the years. The CJ was replaced by the Jeep Wrangler in 1987. Several versions of this popular vehicle are used today for racing and off-roading purposes.
The original CJ-5 was inspired by the Jeeps used in the Korean War. The CJ-5 was produced in the United States between 1954 and 1983. Over the years, several different CJ-5 versions were produced. Popular models included the Camper, Renegade I, Super Jeep, Golden Eagle, the 462, and the Tuxedo Park Mark III.
Several different manufacturers produced the CJ-5. In 1965, the CJ-5 received an engine overhaul. The new engine was a 155 horsepower engine from Willy's called a Hurricane engine. In 1972, the manufacturers increased the hood size of the CJ-5 by three inches. A minor body change in the windshield area took place in 1976. This minor change meant hard tops from CJ-5s manufactured between 1955 and 1976 no longer fit vehicles produced after 1976.
The CJ-7 was also a popular model of the Civilian Jeep. You might remember it from its appearance on the popular television show The Dukes of Hazzard. The CJ-7 was introduced in 1976. During its production run, there were nearly 400,000 CJ-7s produced. The CJ-7 featured an optional hardtop cover and steel doors for added comfort.
