James Jeans- A Guide to James Jeans & Fashion
James Jeans were launched in 2003 by Seun Lim, and quickly made quite a name for themselves. With a long list of typically well dressed celebrity clients like Nicole Kidman and Uma Thurman, these jeans are totally unique in their materials and construction. Unlike other designer jeans, James Jeans are hand graded--nothing is done by computer.
Since their initial launch of just 1,100 pairs of jeans, James Jeans has now introduced a premium line. These ultra premium jeans include Seun Lim's unique permanganate potassium washing technique that leaves the jeans with an antique, hand-crafted look. The premium jeans are made from a blend of denim and cashmere, designed for a rare kind of casual opulence and soft comfort.
One of the reasons James Jeans have been so popular is their slimming effect. Strategically placed darted pockets make the rear end appear smaller. To give the leg a trim look, the denim is highlighted above the knee and faded below. The same technique is applied to the waist, where contrast between shadings creates a slimming effect. There is also three-dimensional whiskering around the zipper to create an elongated line from the waist to the leg.
Among the shades of denim in which James Jeans are available are vintage faded, dark wash, light wash, and faded wash--each of which has its own unique tint. In addition to the whiskering and pocket placement, James Jeans use of contrast stitching adds a distinct touch. Many of the styles also feature fraying at the pockets and hems, distinguishing these jeans from most of their competitors. The same detailing is used on the collection of denim jackets and coats from James Jeans.
