There has been an unfortunate proliferation of the use of the word JADE on eBay sites.  While this is very true of many Chinese sites, many sellers in the West are now doing the same thing.  The problem is that the word jade has become a magic word used to describe many things that are not jade, I believe this is to get shoppers to check out their items if not actually mislead the buyer.  There is no such thing as "jade quartz" for example or jade agate, actual terms taken from descriptions of items for sale by American sellers.   I just experienced a seller telling me that the item they called red jade was actually what it looked like, carnelian when i questioned them about their use of the term jade, in other words they knowingly used misleading a description in their headline.  I was also told by the same seller not to bid if I did not like it.  To my mind this is fraud.  Buyers must be aware that there are only two types of jade, jadeite and nephrite.  All the so called blue jade, usually chalcedony or agate, red jade or carnelian, pink jade or rose quartz all either use the term for a different material entirely or it is treated to get the color.  The idea that a seller can include the correct term such as agate in the description, following the word jade is wrong and goes against the principles of eBay.  So buyers, if the you see the word jade in a description take it with a teaspoon of salt as so much of what is now being offered as jade is not jade.
