The scoop on Jessica Simpson's Dessert Beauty, Dessert Treats, Sweet Kisses, and Tropical Treats Collections... Here is a little basic info you might wanna know or just find helpful whether your a fan, first time buyer, or seasoned seller of her popular products! : )
VARIOUS COLLECTIONS:
-
She initially started out with her DESSERT BEAUTY Collection in 2004. It's definitely more sophisticated in both Appearance and Quality ~ geared more to an older fan base with scents like Juicy, Dreamy, Creamy, and Taste Delicious, which was her very own personal scent creation from this line. She was happily married at this time (aww, don't we all miss Jess with Nick?) and wanted to express a sultry side to her line by highlighting the "edible" feature of her beauty products. The pricing was also the most expensive because it was sold only at high end department stores and beauty retailers such as Ulta and Sephora.
-
Her DESSERT TREATS Collection then came in 2005 with almost every yummy dessert flavor out there like Candy, Cupcake, Butterscotch, Banana Split, Lollipop, Cotton Candy, and Creamsicle. Highlighting what the fans favored most - lots of sugar & shimmer! This line was created specifically to spread the fan base of her products to an even younger age group such as pre-teens, teens, & students. As well as making this her most affordable collection. It was dramatically lower in price range and the packaging quite obviously catered to the youth.
-
In the fall of 2005, she came out with her very own Signature SWEET KISSES Collection which was exclusively sold only at Wal-Mart retailers and not available anywhere else. This line has lots of home grown yummy scents meant to take you back to the simple pleasures of Strawberries, Peaches, Cupcakes, and the occasional splurge of Cre'me Brulee'. In my personal opinion, these personalized products make it that more special for die hard Jessica fans or collectors because this is the only line she carried that came out with her photo on the packaging and an imprint of her original signature on each and every product. She even named this line after her debut album SWEET KISSES. Jessica quoted "As you can see by the packaging, Sweet Kisses is very personal to me..."
-
She did have a summer promo where she came out with the TROPICAL TREATS Collection as a short stint to cap off that initial summer when the Dessert Beauty sales peaked. This line had an island inspired fragrance called Hula Girl, with fun gloss names like Koo-koo for Coconut, Passion Fruit Princess, Kiss-me Kiwi, Trya my Papaya, Maui Mango, and Pineapple Princess.
-
In addition to her summer line, she also had a Holiday promo line as well ~ COOL KISSES Collection. Almost forgot about that! It included her limited edition flavors of Cinnamon Hearts, Peppermint Swirl, and Vanilla Ice Cream. It was extremely popular that season whereas most were sold in Gift Sets.
-
Unfortunately, it was that very evolution of her collection that caused the fall of her beauty products. Apparently, the makers of her products got into a large lawsuit with Dessert Beauty Inc. stating that they were not "paid" as promised for the products produced. Dessert Beauty Inc. response to that was they refused to pay for some of the products that were not within their requested standards.
RECENT UPDATE (4/08): Although she's all done with her Dessert Beauty line, this coming August 15, 2008 is the release date of Jessica's new signature fragrance called "FANCY"! I guess she's starting fresh with a new pro company (who also creates Paris Hilton's perfumes) to create perfume in the same high end category as other Hollywood celebs with successful perfume collections.
EXPIRATION DATES:
-
Whipped Creams - Most of the Dessert products always have the exp. dates printed on them if there is any. From what I've seen for the most part it's the Whipped Cream products that "always" have exp. dates on them. If you don't already know, her entire beauty line is edible and promoted as adding some "fun" to your daily beauty regime. So, don't be alarmed! Basically the exp. dates are there to let you know that after that print date, you definitely should not be eating any of it. So, don't toss it out just cause it's expired. You can still use it strictly as a standard beauty product like the whipped body lotions, but not as an "edible" beauty product. The expiration dates are a precautionary reminder that "edible" feature is expired. Same goes to say about any of her other items that may have a date imprinted. (of course like with all beauty items, if it has any negative effects on your skin - don't use it at all for whatever reasons you find)
-
Lip Glosses - Like all Lip products, it's recommended use of 1yr. or less is "after" it's been opened. Even if the Seller just opened them to inspect color/scent, although never tested, the simple act of opening it and allowing air in it's tube can pass bacteria causing contamination. Also, I've learned that when bundled in a mass amounts some caps can come loose causing that same effect. But most sellers don't ever open products they sell. Other varying causes such as improper storage can cause glosses (even ones that are sealed) to go rancid & yellowish as well ~ example: storing them in warm/hot conditions can cause a yellowish tinge to beauty products. A good tip is trusting your Seller. If they sell lots of these same type products, chances are they got them directly from distributors or reputable sources and know how to properly store beauty products. If it appears they are selling items to clear out their clutter, then your probably taking a chance.
FRAGRANCE LINE:
-
Because her entire collection is edible, you will not find her fragrances strong and long lasting. They are meant to be safe if consumed and do not contain the required ingredients that make fragrances last. They do go on strong when first applied, but will fade after a short time and just simply needs re-application.
-
Her SHIMMER MISTS are a super popular fan favorite, which are also very light in staying power, but the advantage you get is the awesome shimmer it adds to your hair & skin that the fragrances don't have. That's why they can sell for more than most of her fragrances here on Ebay. So, if your looking for more serious fragrance quality with "staying" power, you should purchase other brand fragrances that come in the form of "parfums" or "toilettes".
GREAT ALTERNATIVES:
(Pls. note that all alternatives listed below are strictly just my personal opinion and although there are hundreds of quality brands out there, these are solely listed because I "personally" have tried them myself.)
If you truly love the "sweet yummy scents" of her line and not really care for the edible feature of it, my recommendations and personal favorites for yummy type fragrances would be:
-
The DEMETER Fragrance collection
-
AQUOLINA Fragrances (Pink Sugar is my ultimate fav.!)
My personal recommendations for "yummy" type scented Bath & Body Products are:
-
I Love JAQUA Body Products - yumm...My fav. body products line!
-
Victoria's Secret INSATIABLES Collection
-
Bath & Body Works ILE DE TAHITI Collection (my fav. for tropical type scents)
My personal choices for Lip Plumping would be:
-
DuWop LIP VENOM
-
Sexy Hair Concepts BIG SEXY LIPS
Although there are literally thousands of lip glosses out there, my personal choices for "affordable" ones/ "low cost" Lip Glosses would be the ever so trusted drug store goodies:
-
Revlon SKINLIGHTS
-
L'Oreal COLOUR JUICE
-
Cover Girl WETSLICKS
-
These brands also have other great glossy lip products, but higher in cost.
...and these 4 Lip Gloss brands ~ although not drug store brands, are about the same low price range and also very easy to find everywhere!
-
V.S. BEAUTY RUSH
-
BB&W LIPLICIOUS
-
Lancome JUICY TUBES
-
Avon LIP JUICE, GLAZEWEAR
-
or Avon TOTAL KISS is a great 2 in 1 product
There's honestly waaaay too many great gloss brands to list! So, I thought listing the "lower cost" ones that I have personally tried myself in my many beauty trial quests (I was a real cosmetic junkie in college *lol*) would be a good start...
So, next time you get bidding happy for that discontinued Dessert Beauty Gloss like in "Juicy" or "Luscious" ~ by all means buy them if it is your super favorite color or gloss, for resell purposes, or if your a die hard Jessica fan. If that's not the case, you might wanna consider spending that $25+ dollars on a truly high quality product like Dior Addict Ultra Gloss which cost that same range, but far more superior in quality. (if it's a red carpet "must have", then it must be super good, right?) And if you wanna spend that kind of money on a plumper, you might as well go with DuWop Lip Venom.
As much as you find them everywhere right now here on Ebay, the sad truth is that Jessica's entire Dessert Beauty Collection is DISCONTINUED an no longer in production. So, as time passes on, most of the fan favorites like the limited edition Ice Cream Fragrance or extremely rare Body Butters/Scrubs, & Shampoo/Body Washes are going to get more expensive with time. Now is the best time to get them while they are still readily available in mass amounts and cheaper in cost. I hope some of this info can put some light to your Dessert Treats questions. I will try my best to update this if ever I come across more great facts on Jessica's Beauty line. Thanks for stopping by!
