Whatever it was, you found "It" in an eBay store. Now it's time to close the deal, and you have two options:
- Buy It Now, or
- Submit Best Offer.
Choose "Buy It Now" if you want to purchase the item at its posted price without having to contact the seller. No waiting--the item is yours.
Choose "Submit Best Offer" if you want the opportunity to buy the item at a lower price than the "Buy It Now" price.
Being a smart shopper, you want to pay the best price or the lowest price possible, so you decide to submit a Best Offer to the seller. But how do you determine the Best Offer?
Guidelines
Guiding Principle: The Seller WILL ACCEPT "best offers" or the option wouldn't have appeared in the listing. But the Seller WILL DECLINE offers that are too low. Remember that the Seller and you, the Buyer, must both be happy with the price in order to complete the transaction.
- Reread the description. Has the Seller agreed to discount the Buy It Now (BIN) price? For example, The Boutique Palace will discount the BIN price by 10% on your invoice. The discounted price now becomes the basis from which to determine your "best" offer. A good rule of thumb here is since this Seller is already willing to discount 10%, an additional 10% - 15% off (a total 25% discount off the BIN price) will make a "best offer" price.
- Generally, if the BIN price is over $50, this Seller may likely accept a best offer price that is discounted by no more than one-third or 33%.
- But if you're purchasing two or more of the item, this Seller may likely accept a best offer where the BIN price is discounted by no more than one-half or 50%.
Guiding Principle: While there is no minimum Best Offer price, please try to ensure that your "best offer" reflects the fair market value--a Win-Win transaction for you and the Seller. Please don't waste yours and the Seller's time by submitting an offer that is more than 50% off the BIN price--this does not make a "best offer" price.
