ROYAL DOULTON Toby  IS it a Toby Jug  or character jug. Royal Doulton character jugs depict the head and shoulders of the subject. They are made in four sizes: large, 5 1/4 to 7 inches; small, 3 1/4 to 4 inches; miniature, 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 inches; and tiny, 1 1/4 inches. Toby jugs portray a seated, full figure. Royal Doulton is the name used on Doulton and Company pottery made from 1902 to the present. Doulton and Company of England was founded in 1853.These older Royal Doulton pieces have become very collectible in the past few years because Royal doulton is now producing most of their figurines overseas. This means that they are no longer stamped "Made In England" and quite frankly in my mind the newer pieces are not near as nice as the older figurines. As time goes by these wonderful older figurines will become more valuable and highly sought after for their "Made In England" stamp.
