Is Sunday Really the Universal "Best Listing Day" for All Sellers to end their Auctions?

As sellers on eBay, the most important selling strategy, other than the item description, is what day to list and end your auctions.  And anyone who has researched the web to find the answer will come across countless articles and information stating that everyone should list and end their eBay items on Sundays.  This information has been spread time after time on the Internet since the inception of the auction giant eBay. And unfortunately, it is widely accepted as truth by so many new eBay sellers and some experienced sellers, as well.  But...is this really true for All Sellers?

Think about this for a second...for all of the millions of types of items sold on eBay, is it really this simple, this easy?  And if this is truly the case, then why are there so many sellers, more importantly PowerSellers, that list/end their auctions on other days?

The Answer is No.  This myth does not apply to ALL SELLERS.

Now there is certainly some truth to the statement that some eBay sellers should end their listings on Sunday night.  Logically this makes sense for a lot of sellers because eBay statistics show that the highest number of people spend time on the site on Sunday evening...more specifically, there is more buyer traffic and Traffic = Sales.

Because each seller's product is unique in its own way, every seller should really be asking themselves - "What day are MY Buyers more likely to be on eBay?  What day is best for My Unique Buying Market?"  If your buyers are more likely looking for your items on a Tuesday night, does it even make sense to end on Sundays...just because "they" say to do so?  Of course not!  Thus, the reason why so many other sellers are listing on other days.  Now, I am not saying not to list on Sundays.  I am just saying that it is so specific to what you are selling and what your particular buying group is.  Maybe Sundays are the best day, maybe there is a better day?  It all depends on YOU and What YOU ARE SELLING.  Your listings should end on the days and times when the majority of YOUR buyers are shopping on eBay.

If you market your items to stay-at home moms, then Sundays might be a bad day because most people with families would agree that this is a family day and when you are getting the kids ready for the coming week.  If you target businesses, then Sundays are definitely the worst day, because they are more than likely to be looking for your items during the business day - Monday-Friday.  Which opens up another important thing to consider - not only what day is best, but what time of that day?

The Main Point?...The only way to really figure the answer to these two questions is to do research on your own.  Which would you feel more comfortable trusting - what others say or what you have researched or learned from your own successes and failures?

The best way to research is by performing a "Completed Items" search, by choosing this option on the left hand side of the buying search results page, under "Preferences".  This is the best and most useful information because it is based on recent and real data.  You can learn from the mistakes of other sellers, as to what the worst day and time of day to list was.  Simply sort your results based on highest price to see what times and days the best selling (highest $$$ sold) items ended on and copy that approach.

Another way to search is by trial and error on your own.  Of course use my first recommendation to start off and then experiment with your own unique listing to see if you can find even more success by listing on other days as well.  Again...your items are unique and what works for others may nor work best for you.  The only reservation with this is that if you are a rare seller on eBay or you only sell one or two here and there of your item, then you really should just consider basing your strategy on what has recently worked for other sellers.  What I like about this strategy, though, is that if you do sell a lot of items of similar nature, then you can afford to experiment with other days to see if it makes sense to list on another day instead or in addition to Sundays.  Think about this...if your buyers are just as likely to be on eBay on Sundays as well as say Tuesdays and other sellers are all listing on Sundays...wouldn't it make sense to list on a Tuesday so that you are not just competing with so many other sellers of similar products as yours?  You will be more likely to sell at even higher prices because there are fewer options for your buyers.

Thanks for taking the time to read my guide and I hope this has helped.  If it has, please hit the "Yes" button to let everyone else know and feel free to contact me with any questions and most importantly...HAVE FUN SELLING!!!
