I can't believe that eBay is still allowing auctions touting the so-called "investment" opportunities in the Iraq Dinar as a "sure way" to make a lot of money. These are the same people selling Mexican 1000 Peso coins for $100 to unsuspecting buyers. Well, they dropped 3 zeros from the Peso back in 1989 and that aluminum coin is worth now what it was worth then, 10 cents!
The official rate of the old Iraq Dinar, $3.22 USD (U.S. Dollars), was set in 1982 by Saddam Hussein. The old Iraq Dinar could not be freely traded, so this rate was never upheld on the world market. The new Iraq Dinar (IQD) was introduced between October 2003 and January 2004 by the Coalition Provisional Authority. It's worth a whopping seven hundredths of a US cent.
Don't believe me, and why should you. Well, for one reason I'm not trying to sell you any. So go read the facts for yourself at
www xe.com/iqd.htm
Back from reading the truth and you still think that the 25000 Dinar note you just bought for $30 is going to be worth $75000 someday, we'll assume that you're planning a vacation in Iraq because that is the only place you'll be able to spend it. When you get there don't be too surprised when you find your new note is obsolete and was replaced by a 2½ Dinar note.
Maybe it will rise in collector value. Probably so, most banknotes do. It might be worth $40 or $50 in 10 years.
I'm willing to speculate that the reviewers on this topic who call the rest of us 'uninformed' have bought a couple of million in Dinars and really need to unload them. Just look at the auctions there to the right =>!
I bought one of each for my collection and they look nice there with all the pretty colors.
