Inuyasha - Inuyasha and Kagome - Adult Swim
The Cartoon Network airs a series of cartoons with adult themes and content called "Adult Swim." Adult Swim originally aired on Sundays, but it now airs Monday through Thursdays at 10:30 as well as on Saturday and Sunday nights.
In addition to American cartoons geared toward adults, the network also airs popular Japanese anime on Adult Swim. Some of the most popular series on Adult Swim include Family Guy, The Boondocks, Harvey Birdman, Tom Goes to the Mayor, Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and InuYasha.
InuYahsa tells the story of a doglike creature and his attempts to steal the "Jewel of Four Souls" from a small village. InuYasha is put in a deep sleep when he gets shot by a priestess named Kikyo. Fifty years later, a young girl falls into a well and awakens InuYasha. Transformed into the reincarnation of the priestess Kikyo, Kagome and InuYasha set out to find the jewel before it is possessed by evil demons.
In addition to InuYasha (the morally conflicted half-demon) and Kagome (the priestess reincarnated), the anime series features a variety of oddball characters. Shippo is a spunky fox spirit who also possesses magical abilities. Miroku is a Buddhist monk who has a "hell hole" in his hand and lecherous tendencies. Every tale needs an embarrassing relative, and that's just what Sesshoumaru is. He's InuYasha's half-brother, and he's full demon. With such a stable of engaging characters, it's no surprise that InuYasha (available on DVD) has a devoted fan-base.
