International Listings Bidder Beware!

I made the mistake recently of bidding on several auctions that were listings from China. They were listed in Brittish pounds with a conversion to about $1.99 U.S. for both auctions. Before I realized it, I found that there were no shipping fees listed on the auction. No one else bid, and I won. Then, began the effort to get an invoice in American currency, which I was never able to do. Then they sent me an email with a bill for both $1.99 auctions for $104.00 US. Yes, they were charging $100 for shipping. I have purchased from China before, and never have I experienced this sort of outright abuse of the Ebay system. They had so many threatening statements on their auction page about non-payment, that I went ahead and paid with a note on each auction about my disappointment with their shipping fees. They never responded. I contacted Ebay to see what they recommended that I do. They responded saying that this was not acceptable behavior in the Ebay trading community. They didn't give me any further instruction. I left negative feedback for this seller. Then they wrote saying that their employee had charged me too much for shipping in error, and that they wanted to refund $45 in shipping. If I accepted this, then they wanted me to revoke my negative feedback. I wrote back that I would accept $75, since the package may have weighed eight ounces and should have cost about $20 to ship. Then they wrote back saying that they could not make enough profit if they refunded me that amount. Shipping is not where profit is derived on Ebay. It is the fair market system that they have established here that makes this community so successful. I encourage you to read all international listings carefully before bidding. That was my fault. But persons that are unable to communicate with the community they are offering auctions to in the same language, should not list there. It seems that their English became worse and worse, the more they realized that I had identified their inappropriate way of doing business. This situation is still in progress, but I have learned a great lesson here. Learn from my mistake.
