Have you ever wondered why your guides were receiving YES or NO votes? Have you ever wondered what people would tell you if they could just leave comments about your guides? Getting comments from readers is a GREAT way to get ideas for improving your guide content and presenting it better, and THIS guide will tell you exactly how to accomplish this on eBay.
Enabling Your Readers to Comment
Getting readers to comment is as simple as asking them to do so, and then giving them a place to do it. This guide will tell you EXACTLY how to ask, as well as give you a seamless and hands-free approach for collecting comments from them. It's really very easy! I encourage you to leave a comment for THIS guide, before trying to set it up yourself, ... that way you'll get a better feel for how the process works.
A Step-By-Step Approach
1. The first step is to post a blog entry entitled THANKS, with a body of Thank you to everyone who has helped me with my blogs. You guys are the BEST, or some other such completely unuseful but non-offensive content. It's a nice thing to say, and you'll be replacing both the body and the title soon anyway. I'll get to that momentarily.
2. After posting the blog entry, open it, and copy its URL by selecting it and pressing the CTRL-C keys simultaneously on your keyboard. You will use this URL to establish a link FROM your guide TO your blog post. This blog post is the place where your readers will leave their comments about your guide. You'll edit it later.
3. Next, CREATE YOUR GUIDE. When you are finished writing it, type the following at the bottom: PLEASE TO ADD COMMENTS. (Yes, that's exactly what to type ... you'll see why in a minute).
4. Next, using the eBay Guide toolbar, insert a link in between the words PLEASE and TO in the sentence you just typed. After choosing the Link option from the top menu bar, select the radio button for eBay Web page (no non-eBay links), and Ctrl-V the URL that you copied from your blog. Name the link CLICK HERE. Your link sentence should now match the one at the bottom of this guide.
5. You are now ready to publish your guide. After publishing, visit the guide, and copy its URL by selecting it and pressing CTRL-C. This link will enable people who choose to comment to return to your guide.
6. Use the link at the bottom of your guide to visit your blog post. This is where the comments will be placed.
7. Edit the blog entry, and insert the URL for your guide at the bottom. This will enable your readers to return to the guide after posting a comment, ostensibly to vote for or against it, or to continue reading other guides.
8. Last, change the name of the blog post to COMMENTS FOR <name of your guide>, and post it again. You may have to delete comments that were added from when the blog post was first published, but the likelihood of anyone visiting it directly without linking to it from your guide decrease dramatically after the first hour.
If you followed these eight easy steps, you are now set up to receive comments on your guide! I'm sure this isn't the only way to do this, but it works for me. You can make it fancier by associating your hyperlinks with pictures (like I have), but these are the basics. Feel free to copy what I have done with my links. Plus, if you have additional ideas, please let me know by leaving a comment for me. Anyone else who adds comments will also see yours there.
So sit back, relax, and be confident that your readers can choose to communicate with you about your guide since you have now empowered them with that valuable option! And NOW YOU'LL KNOW what some of these people are thinking. Good luck with your guides!
