1. Adjust your needle loop setting to a medium length. Fill in the center of the eye (A) with the color indicated.
2. Thread your needle with the yarn color for the neighboring section (B). Be sure to angle your needle away from the existing loops and punch one row of stitches. Now fill in the area.
3. Thread your next color if a change is required for the next area (C). Angle your needle away from the existing loops and fill in the area.
4. Thread your needle with the color indicated for the eye outline (D). Adjust the needle to a low setting. Punch the outline around the eye using 1/2 needle width stitches. Angle your needle away from existing punch loops to avoid intermingling of colors.
5. Refer to your pattern for the highlight color and placement (E). Set your needle on a long setting and punch 2 or 3 loops very close together. On the front, give these longer loops a little tug and twist. Clip them even with the loops in the eye.
6. To add realism or character, add eyelashes. Set your needle to the longest setting. Now punch one row where you want the lashes to be (F). On the front, cut these long loops open and shape. On a garment, laundering frays these clipped threads which gives a long, luxurious look to the lashes.
7. If you are doing animal whiskers, stitch and clip the same way as lashes, but add a dot of washable fabric glue to the cut ends. The glue dries clear. If you want the whiskers to be stiffer, smooth a small amount of washable fabric glue from root to tip with your fingers. Let dry thoroughly.
