Most software installations occur without a problem. However, there are some issues that can be avoided. One rare occasions, a buyer will tell us that the software will not load on their system. While tech support is always available from the publisher, we have noticed a few common mistakes.
1] Defragment your hard-drive
While this function will not solve a installation problem, it will keep your system running at optimal performance.
2] Stop downloading free software
Everybody loves free software. No one loves the results that can happen when you install programs that contain virii, spyware, adware, mali-ware, etc. Downloading a trial version of Halo from the Microsoft website is safe. Downloading software from a vendor who you can not verify as a reputable software company is not a good idea. Be safe, uninstall all third-party software of questionable origin, run your anti-virus program and get rid of all the "junk". It' just a fact that most people don't actually know that these (unwanted) programs are running on their system.
3] Remove the trial version of the game
Although rare, we have seen a few circumstances where the trial version residing on the system prevented the full-version from operating correctly.
4] Close all programs
It is possible to install software while your system is running other programs. Unfortunately, it is also possible that those other programs are using resources that will conflict with the installation program. Be safe, close all your programs and restart your machine before attempting a fresh install of a new program.
5] Read the on-screen messages
Not hard to believe, but most people do not read the messages prompting the user for input. Don't just click on the 'yes' or 'no' button when the installation program prompts you. Read what the message is telling you and make the right decision.
6] When a problem occurs
If a problem occurs, note the error message and write it on paper for future reference. Most technical support people can not help you fix a problem if they do not know what the exact problem is.
7] Re-install the program
If your first installation went bad, there is no reason to believe that installing the program a second time will change anything. If you have made a change, like deciding to follow steps 1-5, then un-install any remaining portion of the program.
8] Contact tech support
The software publisher will provide a contact address (usually email, sometimes a phone number) on the packaging. Contact the publisher's tech support department and be prepared to give the detailed and specific error and information on your type of computer.
